Buhl Planetarium Renovations Near completion + more from Science Center

Buhl Planetarium Renovations

The final phase of Buhl Planetarium renovations, scheduled to be completed by the end of April, was pushed back due to global supply issues that delayed the delivery of new, spacious seats. Please be patient and know that the current seating is temporary, and capacity is extremely limited until the new seats are delivered.

With the upgrades, one of the world’s leading digital planetarium systems has been expanded and has enhanced our visitors’ ability to travel through space, solidifying Buhl Planetarium as the region’s leader in informal astronomy education and amateur space exploration. Buhl Planetarium visitors now can experience the most advanced technology with “true8K” high-resolution images on a new dome canvas. Seating is first-come, first-served, so please make sure your entire party is in line well before the show begins!

Note: The Buhl Planetarium will reopen on Sat., April 30 and the new seats are scheduled to arrive in mid-May!

Coming this fall! Mars: The Next Giant Leap

This new 7,400-square-foot exhibition gallery experience will replace roboworld® and invites visitors to imagine life on Mars. “Visitors will discover what it will take to settle on Mars; be challenged to create a new, more equitable and sustainable society; and learn how space exploration has a positive impact on life on Earth,” says Jason Brown, Henry Buhl, Jr., Director of Carnegie Science Center. “The exhibit is designed to illuminate Pittsburgh’s involvement in the space industry and engage guests in concepts that they will continue to think and be excited about long after their visit.”
