Attack Theatre revives The Dirty Ball in the historic Strip District Produce Terminal

After a five-year hiatus, Attack Theatre’s The Dirty Ball returns to Pittsburgh for an epic celebration in the company’s home neighborhood of the Strip District. The Pittsburgh dance company will transform a portion of the historic Strip District Terminal building into an extravagant benefit bash on April 25, 2020. With dazzling dance performances, artful interactivities, and flowing libations, this year’s Ball offers a plucky bit of pageantry for the 11th iteration of Pittsburgh’s most daring social soirée.

Known for their work in non-traditional settings, Attack Theatre will revive this major performance event in one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. As The Strip District Terminal undergoes development by McCaffery, the building offers a unique opportunity to thoughtfully activate the creative potential for a space in transition. From a blank slate, The Dirty Ball will transform part of the site at 17th and Smallman Streets into a theatrical environment that highlights the company’s work within the unique landscape of the city.

Dan McCaffery, CEO of McCaffery, shares Attack Theatre’s enthusiasm for hosting this event in the newly reimagined building: "McCaffery is proud to work with Attack Theatre at the Strip District Terminal, offering new and unique uses for this building in the Strip."

Attack Theatre’s Executive Director, Rebecca Himberger, expounds on the value of these creative partnerships for the company, “The Dirty Ball takes shape thanks to partnerships like this. These collaborations support, influence, and inspire our work all over the region, from dance performances in Wilkinsburg to creative learning programs in the North Side.”

In ten years producing The Dirty Ball, from Downtown lofts to South Side warehouses, a cheeky and suggestive party gave way to a haven for fearless expression and exuberant celebration. With revelers adorned in blue jeans or ball gowns, rhinestones or body paint, “Anything Goes” became the code for a pageant of artists and audiences alike. In keeping with a tradition of pageantry and playful irreverence, The Dirty Ball #11 will take place on April 25th—The Perfect Date...”not too hot, not too cold.” This quote from the comedy “Miss Congeniality” fueled the creative process behind everything from interactive elements to one of many dance performances slated to take place throughout the evening.

Now celebrating their 25th anniversary season, Attack Theatre invites its adventurous audience to help them imbue this notable venue with the audacious spirit of this legendary Pittsburgh event.
